My Montessori-Inspired activities for baby

I try not to offer to my child any toys unless I know they have a very specific purpose: it develops fine motor skills, helps to develop concentration, offers various sensory experiences, etc. We always try to adopt our living place for her to move freely and safely around, and sometimes I feel too many toys can be on the way of her discoveries. Very often her toy can be a piece of different material or a cardboard roll. I stay away from plastic and electronic stuff. I often get an inspiration to make activity for my 7 months old. For example:

A glass bottle with marbles - a very loud rattle :) I also plan to pour coloured rise inside. I usually let my baby play with any glass material only under my direct supervision.
A sensory board. It took me 10 minutes to make this one. I simply collected different materials around the house and used acrylic paint in tube to add a different detail to it. I have to say, the sensory board is very popular with my girl.

A sensory box. Again, various materials to touch, feel, smell, hear, even taste. It has - soft silk scarf material, a small pillow with dry lavender inside, glass large marble boll, a hard thick shell (its still got a bit of salt from the beach on it), ball for the drier, and a wooden egg shaker. She loves this one too. First, I just let her play with it, and later start to introduce language: soft, hard, cold, bumpy, heavy, light etc.)

A family album for introducing language like : mum, dad, granddad, etc.

A plate with rattles and Montessori infant wooden toys.

A rattle I made out of my old bracelets.

A small "treasure tray" with different object from around the house.

"Open and close" activity

This one is among favourites: a xylophone

Here are some wonderful Montessori activities for baby

Montessori Object Permanence Box with Tray and Ball
Child has to drop the little ball into the hole in the box. The ball will roll out of the box and into the attached tray thus allowing the child to experience object permanence by seeing that the ball did not just disappear. It practices precise hand movements while sending information to the brain as well as develops hand, wrist and finger control - also known as "refined hand movements".
With repeated use of this material, the child learns how it feels to succeed when he has achieved a goal on his own.
It's never too early to look and talk together! Perfect for babies from birth to age two! This accordion style foldout book is sturdy enough to stand by itself, and it is just the right size for little hands.

    1. These activities are terrific! I love seeing moms make their own activities for youngsters, and as you said, letting them explore what's around them (rather than be passively entertained).
