Practically Healthy (Practical Life activity: making pomegranate juice )

Looking for idea for a Practical Life activity? How about making pomegranate juice. One of the oldest known fruits, found in writings and artifacts of many cultures and religions, the pomegranate (punica granatum) is an original native of Persia. This nutrient dense, antioxidant rich fruit has been revered as a symbol of health, fertility and eternal life.

Making Pomegranate juice can be a very exciting activity for kids. There are a few ways you can make the juice: using bowl, pestle and sifter, OR a garlic crusher.   Children separate skin and place seeds in a bowl, crush it with pestle, after that pour juice through the sifter in the measuring cup and then pour it in the glass, and enjoy. Or using garlic crusher they crush seeds over the measuring cup then pour it in the glass.

When I introduced this fruit to the children, they were very puzzled of what it could be and were very surprised to discover the taste.

There are so many delicious ways to use freshly squeezed juice: make popsicles or ice cubes, or introduce juice and smoothie making into a daily routine in the morning. What a fantastic way to create healthy habits from very young..
